as an artist vuyo mfokazi is deeply interested in the human experience and the unpredictability of life, as well as the concept of true freedom. vuyo’s works seeks to convey his own experiences, feelings and thoughts and he communicates this through visual stories. drawing inspiration from african sculptures, masks, pattern designs, primitive paintings and children's art.

vuyo translates these influences into vibrant paintings with pattern details in a form of abstract human figures. vuyo’s creative process involves beginning a painting without any idea in mind, and at a certain point in the process of putting paint on canvas an idea will suggest it self. many of these ideas change and many are rejected until one seems strong enough to accept. vuyo dominantly uses acrylic paints and oil pastels in his work layering vibrant colours, vuyo then tries to harmonize the colours with his current thoughts and feelings. vuyo captures his past and present memories. informed by the works of abstract expressionist such as pollock, miro and dubuffet and guided by the philosophy art brut. vuyo’s art emphasizes the importance of pure pleasure, intuition, spontaneity, and improvisation. each piece uniquely captures his personal experiences and ideas of how he perceives life and its relation to himself.

through his art he aspires to take the viewer on a journey of experiencing life through his lenses , hoping that they enjoy, learn and appreciate the stories vuyo tells.
